What to Expect

From the moment you contact me through to the end of the day, here's what you can expect from your author visit.

Make Contact

First, reach out by completing the form on this page. I will reply to you within three business days.

Arrange date and time

I'll work with you to find the best date, program, and schedule for the day. Then I'll send you a contract which includes everything we discussed including my AV and other requirements, the cancellation policy, and costs.

Book sales

Kids love being able to take home a signed book. We can arrange a bulk buy through my publisher or we can work with a local store to set up a personalized order page where parents can order and pay directly. The books will be delivered to the school and I'll sign the books either before or after the event.

Before the event

I'll be in touch to confirm final details and make sure we're both ready for the big visit!

On the big day!

I'll arrive around thirty minutes before the first author assembly or workshop if possible to set up, check AV, and familiarize myself with the space. I love to find out more about the school, what your "quiet signal" is, if you have a mascot and so on. I love greeting kids as they enter the room and getting energized and ready to perform!

Then it's GO TIME!

The presentation

Depending on what you've booked your assembly could look a bit like this. But I personalize each event to the grade and your requests so this is just an example.

2-3 minutes introduction
5-10 minutes about how I became an author and persevered even when things got hard
1-2 minutes game to get the wiggles out
10-15 minutes activity (book reading/writing exercise/game depending on the book/audience)
10-15 minutes Q&A and wrap up
